Hyundai L&C plans to expand the production of engineered stone(Hanstone). The company decides to install additional production line at Sejong plant in Korea, having 4 production lines in total (currently 1 line in Korea and 2 line in Canada).
Engineered stone(Hanstone) is premium surface, which is composed of more than 90% of quartz. It is famous for its superior countertop/flooring function, including high durability against surface scratch and zero water absorption. Hyundai L&C entered the engineered stone market with Hanstone brand back in 2004.
Hyundai L&C, a comprehensive building material company under Hyundai department store group, announces that the company decides to invest $41 million to add another Breton production line in Sejong, Korea on 5th February. A construction will begin in the middle of this month and shall begin full operation in the first half of 2022.
Upon completion of installment, Hyundai L&C is able to double its total production capacity of Sejong plant, up to 1.1 million square meter per annum. In terms of global production capacity, further including 2 lines in Canada, the company is able to produce 2.2 million square meter per annum. This is the fourth-largest production volume in the global engineered stone market after Silestone of Spain, Caesarstone of Israel and Cambria of the USA.
To that end, Hyundai L&C signed a contract with Breton S.p.A from Italy for such installment. Breton S,p.A is the only company that has source technology to manufacture engineered stone facility, and most global companies that produce engineered stone use the facility of Breton.
In particular, the contract will feature Breton’s robot equipment that can embody sophisticated wave patterns that are very similar to natural marble.
A company official said, “We will be able to produce natural marble-like pattern based on robot equipment in Sejong plant. Also, the new facility can produce jumbo size (3,300mmx1,650mm), which is 28% bigger than the standard size (3,050mmx1,400mm).
Also, Hyundai L&C plans to enhance the quality competitiveness of it Canadian production line by installing Robot machines. Upon completion, a production for premium colors will increase from 35% to 50%.
A vice president of Hyundai L&C, Gyu Hwan Choi said “ The facility expansion will pave the way for Hyundai L&C to become a global top 3 player in the engineered stone market, which is growing more than 10 percent annually worldwide.
